Art: Salvador Dali (1904-89)

Salvador Dali painting The Temptation of Saint Anthony c.1946

Salvador Dali was a notable painter, graphic artist, and sculptor from Catalonia, Spain. Many of us know him as the face of Surrealism, a form of expression which sought to channel the unbridled thoughts of the subconscious in an attempt to unlock the power of the imagination. According to this theory, one should nourish genuine delusion while being aware in the back one's mind that the control of reason has been temporarily put off.

His works can be described as being 'hand-painted dream photographs', meticulous and accurate with real-life images but contradicted by the unreal, dream space.

We don't see an image of Dali at work as often as we see his famous mustache. Enjoy!
